SMART WATCH - Everything You Need to Know About Smart Watches

INTRODUCTION

We people all over the world are very much into the usage of smart watches in our daily life because of its aesthetic look and its functions. But we might have not analyzed about its features behind its working. Stay ahead of the technology curve and get to know all about smart watches! This comprehensive guide will let you know what features and specs you should look for in a smart watch.

WHAT IS SMART WATCH ?

Smart watch is a watch with digital display that can be connected with your mobile phones to manage calls and messages you get in your mobiles. It can also detect your various activities including the following

1. Health activity
a. Heart rate
b. Sleep
c. Blood oxygen
d. Breathe
2. Sports/Exercise activity
a. Running
b. Walking
c. Cycling
d. Hiking
e. Climbing
f. Treadmill
g. Spinning
h. Yoga
i. Fitness
3. Weather
4. Direction and speed

HOW THIS WORKS?

Bluetooth connectivity is the wireless technical tool in linking your mobile calls and messages to your smart watch. Bluetooth is a connecting link between two electronic devices located within a distance of about 10m to 100m apart working based on Personal Area Network. By means of Bluetooth, the watch is connected with a mobile application (eg: dafit app, noisefit app, BT notifier, Fit pro etc.) that enables the watch to access various others applications on your mobiles like managing your calls, messages, gmaps etc. and sensors are the technical tool in tracking your basic health parameters in this tiny device. There are various sensors to detect your health parameters. The following are few sensors.

1. GYROSCOPE

This is a type of sensor that detects your movement based on your angular velocity (i.e) Your angular movement with respect to time from a particular central point. This gyroscope function by combining itself with other sensors present inside your smart watch to detect whether you are running, walking or just shaking your wrist.

2. ELECTRO DERMAL ACTIVITY SENSOR

The conductivity produced in the skin due to increased activity of sweat glands is detected by this electrodermal activity sensors. Sweat secreted by eccrine glands due to exogeneous stimuli like weather and endogenous stimuli like memory,  fear, anxiety etc detects your heartrate along with stress.

3. ULTRAVIOLET SENSOR

This detects the amount of UV rays to which the device is exposed and tells you the amount of UV and other harmful rays the person wearing this watch is exposed to.

4. GESTURE SENSOR

Gesture sensor helps in detecting the movement of your wrist and instructs the watch to perform based on the movements you have produced. For example: When you rotate your wrist the stop watch gets turned on and when you shake your wrist it automatically disconnects the call.

5. SKIN TEMPERATURE SENSOR

Non contact temperature detection by means of Infrared temperature sensors. This helps in detecting your body temperature and helps you know whether you are about to fall sick.

6. ECG SENSOR

ECG sensor detects your heart beat based on the electric impulse your heart sends when it pumps each time and the sensor by means of this electric impulse analyses your heart beat rate.

7. ACCELEROMETER

Accelerometer helps in detecting the pace steps you have walked and shows the total number of steps while you walk the entire day. It can even monitor your sleep. Smart watch is provided with a three axis accelerometer which can detect forward movement, backward movement and also it can sense earth's gravity so that it can analyse your position and rate of acceleration.

8. OXIMETRY SENSOR

Pulse oximetry sensor with the help of red and infrared LEDs measures deoxygenated and oxygenated hemoglobin. It is used to know one's oxygen saturation level (SpO2) and pulse rate. Infrared lights are more absorbed by oxygenated blood and hence it allows more red light to pass through whereas more red light is absorbed by deoxygenated blood and hence allows more infrared rays to pass through. Thereby detecting the level of oxygen in blood.

9. BAROMETRIC PRESSURE SENSOR

Aneroid cell present inside the barometric pressure sensor, expands and contracts based on the atmospheric pressure in the surrounding environment. Hence detecting your climbing, altitude in which you are present and also the atmospheric pressure.

10. PROXIMITY SENSOR

This helps the smart watch to know that you are nearby and wants to use it hence it lights up the display when you turn your wrist against your face which is an amazing battery saving technology.

11.MAGNETOMETER

Magnetometer is nothing but a technical term to describe magnetic compass sensor which helps in detecting the direction. This sensor helps in successful running of map applications.

AUTOMATIC RENDERING MACHINE or AUTOMATIC PLASTERING MACHINE

INTRODUCTION

Automatic rendering machine or automatic plastering machine is used to plaster the surface of the wall without the help of much man power. It is also called as programed plastering machine.

HOW THIS WORKS

The clamp of this rendering machine is fixed at both ceiling and flooring of the building and is placed very close to the wall surface where rendering is to be carried out. It can move only one time in vertical direction to plaster a surface. The machine is provided with rails to enable the machine to move vertically. Then by means of labors the mortar is put into the bucket/tray of this machine and thickness of plastering is adjusted as per the requirements and the plastering is carried out on the required surface.

ADVANTAGES

1) Less manpower is required.

2) More area could be covered in a single day.

3) Very smooth plastered surface is obtained.

DISADVANTAGES

1) Fixing the clamp and shifting the machine to next area is a cons.

2) This machine couldn't be used in very narrow areas.

3) These machines works well on internal wall but you have to do cornice and corner plastering manually.

ROBOTIC BRICK LAYER

INTRODUCTION

As education and literacy among people is getting increased day by day, people choose jobs that raises their living standards. So the manpower is getting decreased in many fields including construction field. This situation may even get worse in future. So inorder to compensate the work of masons and helpers, Robotic bricklayer was invented.

HOW THIS WORKS

The proprietary control system takes CAD and 3D model informations. By Cartesian coordinates and parametric design, it determinates where each brick should be placed as per the drawings and 3d modellings. Its telescopic arms can even build curved walls. It can even grind or break bricks according to the requirement.

The bricks and mortar ingredients must be loaded into the machine by means of skilled labors. This machine can even build walls of any pattern as per the wish of the client.

The Bricklayer itself spreads the mortar and lays the bricks in position as per the design programed.

You can get to know more about its working and laying in a visual view from the youtube video given below.

HISTORY AND CURRENT EVENTS

As per US patent office, the patent to this machine was received in 1904 by John Thomas. It took about 100 years to get into real life usage, Even though we people in India might not be aware of this invention even today. Hardian X Robot, developed by FBR in Australia and SAM 100 created by Construction Robotics in US are most widely accepted Robotic brick layers.

ACHIEVEMENTS / RECORDS

In 2016, Hardian made headlines by laying 1000 bricks per hour, which is an record breaking event as labours can only lay 300 to 350 bricks per day. While SAM 100 is a Semi Automated Machine, which requires semi manpower which don't completely eradicate the life of poor people who depend on daily wages jobs.

FUTURE POSSIBILITIES

In future there are great possibilities of replacing manpower with these robots. Today the world is all about computer and robotics. Bow Robotic are even to construction field which is expected to be a great advantage in future.
